How Proctored Exams are Administered

Students who live within 20 miles of a USU campus or center are encouraged to attend that location in order to take their proctored exams. Students living farther than that are permitted to use any one of our certified proctors or submit one for our certification. Any exams that you wish students to take under a proctor's supervision (this includes USU testing centers) must be added to MATS with at least 2 business days notice before the start of the exam.

Each time a faculty member adds or edits and exam or exam materials, a notification is sent to the testing center office for review. We review that the test information is valid and complete. We may contact you if there are problems.

Only USU certified proctors and USU staff working in testing centers or as classroom facilitators have access to tests and test materials. Certified proctors and most staff only have access to test information during the dates in which the test is open for testing.

Canvas Exams

Canvas exams are not synced with MATS. Any changes to make to your exams in Canvas must also be made in MATS if they exist in both places. When creating a new exam, you do have the option to import the exam dates, access code and other data from Canvas, but once the exam is created, there is no continual sync. Please take this into account when making changes to your Canvas exams.
